A thin, small black tomcat slipped through the trees, every once in a while looking over his shoulder for Hollykit, who was hopefully following. A few green leaves -- disturbed by a woodpecker -- danced past his nose, blocking his view. Shaking his head, the ShadowClan apprentice brought the bright emerald foliage to the ground, and then gasped at the sight.
A gentle stream was rippling as it cut through the land, creating a beautiful setting that was added to by the grand birdsong and the like. He cleared the stream in a single leap, then shook his ebony pelt and gazed around, oblivious to the fact that he was standing in ThunderClan territory.
"Hollykit, I told you that I'd show you the border!" Smokepaw yowled, turning around and straining to find the ginger-and-white she-kit. He continued to pad back and forth, sniffing at the air eagerly and crouching, watching a mouse that had crossed his path. Little did he know that he was glaring hungrily at a ThunderClan mouse . . .

Footsteps stopped in the cool air and a small black nose rose skywards to sniff curiously at the peculiar scent that unmistakably not their own. Frosted citrine pools searched the landscape as a lithe calico she-cat stepped lightly over a fallen branch. A high mew sounded in the air and the ThunderClan queen paused to scent the air again, much closer this time. She crinkled her nose as the pungent odor of a ShadowClan cat wafted up her nostrils. Her fur began to bristle but the warrior forced herself to calm as she made herway towards the source.
The scent grew stronger and soon she found herself watching a black tom stare intently at a woodmouse. He seemed small, too small to be a proper warrior. Perhaps an apprentice. She tilted her head and kept watching him, waiting to see what he would do. He seemed quite calm, not even a bit nervous so that the ThunderClan leader guessed that he didn't realize he was trespassing. Finding her patience, she pressed forwards, certain that he was alone.
"Greetings young one," She mewed softly, her tone betraying no anger as she regarded the onyx tom. With another swish of her long tail, the dark tortoiseshell settled herself on the ground in front of him. "I am Borealstar...and you, ShadowClan apprentice, are trespassing...did you know that?" She said, watching the mouse scatter at the sound of her voice. She didn't mind much that the critter escaped as she wasn't hunting that moment. She would bring something back to the Clan later, but now, she faced the young cat, waiting patiently for his response.

The dark apprentice looked up sharply as a tortoiseshell she-cat padded into view, introducing herself as the leader of ThunderClan. He looked up, eyes narrowing, and growled, "What?"
Realization of what he had done shot through him like a crackling lightningbolt, and he immediately jumped to his paws, claws sinking slowly into the earth, which wasn't as marshy as his own territory. Smokepaw then collected himself and sat down, his chin high.
"So? What are you gonna do about it?" he spat, dark blue eyes glinting arrogantly. He knew that he was going to be in deep trouble being a smart-aleck to another Clan's leader . . . but it showed, again, how powerful the scrap was.
"Well?" he challenged, standing up and pacing in front of her, muscles tense. "Are you gonna kill me or something, eh? I'm just a lowly apprentice, and you're a leader. Just a note -- if I'm to injured to get home, then a poor defenseless kit will lose her life when she gets lost in this StarClan-forsaken place."

Her light yellow eyes widened a bit as he retorted but she still showed no anger towards him. Feeling just a tad annoyed she was about to chastise him before sending him back but he bursted out again, asking her if she was going to kill him in such a manner she had to laugh. The mocha and orange dappled femme purred in laughter and her eyes narrowed in amusement. When she finally stopped, she snorted and watched him with a slight smirk on her face.
"Is that so?" She growled, regaining her composure. She decided she liked this young cat, he's got spirit and reminds her horribly of wha Blizzardwake used to be like. She let her eyes flash at him and she stood up as well, flexing her claws with no violence in mind at all. Borealstar lifted her muzzle and looked down at the obsidian pelted kit. "You look small, what, you gonna take on a fully grown warrior?" She mocked him, grinning now. She could tell he was just a little bit uneasy but refused to show it. The she-cat chose to ignore this however, pretending she was going to punish him deeply. "Do you know what happened to the last cat who trespassed onto ThunderClan territory?" She breathed at him, a glimmer in her orbs. The ThunderClan she-cat crouched low to the ground so she met him eye-to-eye, letting a rumbling growl echo from her throat.

Smokepaw had hoped to hit a weak spot, his tail flicking impatiently, but Borealstar seemed -- at the most -- simply amused by him. Had she been younger, the thingyy he-cat would have obeyed her automatically, but she was a regal adult, and one he had no interest in.
"You look small, what, you gonna take on a fully grown warrior?" she asked in a mocking tone. His fur bristled indignantly and he spat at her. "I chased off one of your pesky, smelly, overgrown old squirrels just the other day! Sent 'im packing and yowling with his tail between his legs!" He was beginning to grow desperate, but would not run if she chose to attack. No, Smokepaw was actually looking forward to a gallant injury to show off. He turned his head and licked his shoulder fur nonchalantly. I wonder how handsome I'd look like with a scar there? he thought.
The dark tortoiseshell shrank against the ground, growling and in a crouching position. His hackles rose and he hissed, and at last gave a leap, trying to claw her flank. He was, however, twisting a little too much in the air, so he missed and landed awkwardly on his side. Spitting with rage, he lunged forward, trying to bite her.

Borealstar laughed and twisted away from him as he struck out at her, replying with a half-hearted kick of her hind leg to his belly. She rolled over to face him again, amusement in her eyes. This one's stubborn... She mused, grinning and showing off ivory teeth.
"Really? Over-grown squirrels, huh?" She called, though trying to keep the noise level down. She didn't want the area swarming with cats from her Clan or his, some of them won't be as amused as she. She took a swipe at him with her paw, no real intentions of hurting him. She only planned to give him a small lesson on trespassing. "You know, I'm not your mentor...but I've got to say you need some help on those moves!"
She laughed and remained in her crouch, watching him retaliate. Borealstar flicked her ears in an offhand manner, her tail held high and her mood playful. Hoping to catch his guard down, the she-cat leaped into the air, aiming to pin him to the ground. All the while, she fought with her claws in. There was no reason to actually hurt this young apprentice.

Fuming inwardly as Borealstar easily batted him away with sheathed claws, Smokepaw managed to let out an infuriated hiss before the calico landed on him. Squirming and trying to snap at her whiskers in vain, the young tom allowed himself to go limp.
A few moments after, however, the arrogant apprentice slipped away, grunting with the effort. He snorted at her, his nose in the air. "You're not worth my time, you fat fleabag," he spat, his voice dripping with hatred. Quickly he crossed the borderline and sat on his side of the territory, anger burning in his dark blue gaze. Only briefly did his attention stray elsewhere; he wondered where Hollykit was and if she thought him weak, but he dismissed the thought after a while.

The older she-cat let him go, watching as he crossed over into the marshy territory of ShadowClan. She tilted her head and settled herself on the grass, watching him quietly. She grinned inwardly as he fumed, silently laughing. "You're not worth my time you fat fleabag." She grinned at this, purring in laughter.
The calico she-cat stretched her front limps, still watching the sulking figure. "You give up too easily, you know that?" She called after him, laughter in her voice. But her expression turned thoughtfuly now as she observed him go. She did not leave immediately, choosing a shady spot near the border line and keeping a watch on the young tom. "You mouth off better than you fight...you have a lot to learn."
